Of English origin (for crying out loud, we’re almost Sassenachs!!) the Hamilton name is first recorded in thirteenth century Scotland (Renfrewshire) where our clan went on to gain two Dukedoms!!

The genesis of this ancient family name can be traced to Walter Fitz Gilbert of Hambledon.  Robert the Bruce awarded him lands in Lanarkshire & Lothian, including the territory of Cadzow, which later became the town of Hamilton. READ MORE
